What are pesticides?
Pesticides, including herbicides, are "substances used to kill, repel, or control certain forms of plant or animal life that are considered to be pests. Pesticides include herbicides for destroying weeds and other unwanted vegetation, insecticides for controlling a wide variety of insects, fungicides used to prevent the growth of molds and mildew, disinfectants for preventing the spread of bacteria, and compounds used to control mice and rats" (1).
What does it do to my health?
Pesticides enter the water supply through runoff. In other words, when it rains pesticides are washed off of lawns and farms and make their way in to the water supply. Children are especially susceptible to adverse effects due to pesticide exposure, including neurodevelopmental effects (1). Pregnant women should also be cautious about pesticide exposure. The CHAMACOS study showed that their children may have health problems like wheezing and lowered IQ (1). An NIH study has found that two pesticides are linked to Parkinson's disease (2). Solutions
We offer various carbon filters that can be installed as a point of use filter or as a whole house filter. Both configurations filter out pesticides. See the links below to learn more about what these filters can do for you.
