What is hard water?
Hard water occurs in the presence of dissolved calcium and magnesium. Water hardness causes scale build up in pipes and water heaters forming a rock like substance when it reacts with soaps or heat.
What is it doing to my plumbing?
Scale build up causes up to a 75% reduced flow rate in shower heads. It also causes tank-less water heaters to fail well before the original factory rating. Electric water heaters' life spans are also shortened when using hard water. This is due to the accumulation of rock which damages the heating element.
Solution
To combat this problem a water softener is used. The water softener removes the excess calcium and magnesium. To learn more about how a water softener works, click here.

Benefits of Water Softeners
Water softeners can cause gas water heaters to be up to 24% more cost efficient. Soft water also allows you to use 50% less soap and detergents than you normally would because hard water makes soap work harder. In other words, water softeners save you money and prevents damage to your plumbing.
