What is Lead?

Lead is a malleable element on the periodic table that can be toxic to humans and animals causing adverse health effects. It is found in the air, soil, water, and even in some homes. Lead is released into the air through mining activities and can travel long distances before it settles to the ground. Lead can move from the soil into ground water (1).

What does it do to my health?

Children are particularly at risk because growing bodies absorb more lead than adults. Their brains and nervous systems are also more sensitive to the damage that lead causes. Lead can cause behavior & learning problems, lower IQ & hyperactivity, slowed growth, hearing problems, and anemia in children. In pregnant women, any lead that has been accumulated in their bodies, is released from their bones when calcium is released to be passed to the fetus. This also occurs when breast feeding. This can cause the baby to be born premature, hurt the baby's kidneys & nervous system, increase the chances of learning/ behavioral problems, and increase the risk of a miscarriage (1). Other adults can also suffer from exposure to lead which can cause cardiovascular effects, decreased kidney function, and reproductive problems (in men and women) (1).

Solution

Neutralizing Filter: The neutralizing filter gets rid of corrosive water that may be leaching lead into your water.

Reverse Osmosis: Certified to reduce lead in the water
